A box pleat is a pleat, which is considered to have more movement and design then a simplistic knife pleat. The box pleat is used for a variety of projects including skirts, valances, and buffet tablecloths.
Bearding is a quilting term is used to describe the effect created by the occasional popping of batting through the holes created by needles used to do the quilting. The effect of this is an appearance, which resembles a beard on the fabric. Bearing becomes more of a problem is neutral or white batting is used with dark colored fabrics.

A Shank Button is a button which has a space left between the fabric and the button. The shank button included a shank or a extensions on the back of the button which thread has the ability to be sewn on to the garment. Buttons without a shank can be shanked by continuously wrapping thread under the button to create a shank.
A satin stitch is a tight zigzag stitch – available to use on many sewing machines. If there is no automatic option for creating a satin stitch it can be manually created by setting the stitch length to zero (0) or close to zero.
A sloper is a basic fabric block of a garment primarily used for fitting, designing, and adjusting. The best manner to think of a sloper is as a pre-pattern.

Colorfast is a term used to describe fabric which holds color even when in the wash. If an item is not colorfast it is important to take preliminary caution and wash with similar colors or alone to prevent bleeding and crocking.
